- Summary addresses all parts of

- Summary is accurate and true to
the text - writer does not give his/her approval or disapproval
- Summary has a topic sentence
- Main ideas are paraphrased; quotations
are used sparingly
- Information is presented in the
same order as the text
- Main ideas are supported with
important details
- Summary does not include trivial
information
- Summary does not repeat information
- Summary has a concluding sentence
- Summary has been proofread for
meaning, spelling, and grammar
