Week 17
Weekend update
Cooked dinner for the two of us when I got home on Friday. The mission was to see Harry Potter that evening. The first theater was sold out. The second theater had tickets, but started 1 1/2 hours later. We walked around Ballard at night and stopped off at Tully's for hot cocoa. Harry, Ron, and Hermoine were just great and the story was longer and better.

Awoke semi-early on Saturday morning and couldn't fall back asleep. So me and baby woke up and cooked breakfast for the still snoring Philip. Porteguese Sausage, rice and fried eggs. Watched our DVD and then headed out to buy new tires for the RAV4. None in stock, but on order and on the car probably by Wednesday. Inside to Sam's club for a few purchases. We attended a little get together in Kent for my friend Abu and his family. Mango Necter, Lassi, and home cooked Indian food. We got to sit quietly while they prayed their Ramadan prayers. Visited shortly, then off to a belated celebration for Mara. Hard to sit in a nice restaurant, not hungry at all. At least we saved room for dessert.

Up an hour earlier on Sunday morning. Had to be at church early for a brief choir practice. We were filling in for the people who've started their travels for Thanksgiving. Only 3 sopranos so I had to sing into the mic. I know I just messed up the songs, but hopefully, I blended in enough so nobody noticed. They actually clapped for us on the last song. After mass, Part 2 of Parol making workshop. Most people from last week didn't show. So I hope they can finish theirs at home...Must be hormones, but I can't stand people asking me the same thing over and over. I could only tolerate helping the little kids and the others that have a little idea of how to put things together. Some people just have no sense and can't figure out things unless told exact steps.
I've always just been one to figure things out...Off the Bremerton on the 2:35 ferry. Fell asleep while we were in line and didn't wake up till we docked in B-town. Visit with Mom and Dad Orquia at the Sari Sari Store. A new shipment of stuff, meant boxes in the isle and a greater need to re-arrange and organize. I just wish I could lift and work. Phil installed a new security camera to watch the whole small space. Pretty cool. Groumet dinner in B-Town at KFC and more visiting at home. Philip is trading speakers with Dad and Mom, who are giving things away already. We're supposed to claim what we want and move it to our house, problem is we don't have that much room and Mom Tessie and I agreed that our tastes are opposite. So now we can get rid of our oversized plant stand/speakers and replace them with smaller ones that we'll hook up this time.

that's all

Names, Names, Names
It's going to be a difficult choice. I can look forever at those baby name books, and eventually all the names have the same ring as "Dorkas" and are just blah...

I liked our priests suggestions, "Just find a good saints name." He even told us where to look:
Catholic Online Saints & Angels

You find a name you like and then read about the Saint.

Here's one I thought was a joyous and sad life: Blessed Imelda - She joined the convent at nine years old and was devoted to the Eucharistic presence of our Lord at Mass and in the Tabernacle. First Communion wasn't given till 12 years of age. She had hers early when a Sacred Host hovered over head while she was in prayer at the alter at 11 years old. "The rapture with which she received her Lord was so great that it broke her heart: she sank unconscious to the ground, and when loving hands upraised her, it was found that she was dead."

Wow...

BTW...We heard our baby's heartbeat yesterday. Clear and Stong. Wow again...

Week 16 16 down 24 to go...
Weekend update
Attended an IM show Kasdiay on Friday night. Our post-show party was at Pochi to get Philip some bubble tea. We saw Jayme sitting in the front window. Philip almost told her jokingly, "Get Home!" We played Pisoy dos and Hoven and Darvin ate a waffle w/ icecream, bananas, chocolate sause, and chedder cheese. The guys continued their gaming at home while I fell asleep on the couch. Only waking when my husband tried to carry me upstairs. I don't think so...

We had a lazy Saturday morning, all snuggled up in bed, a late breakfast/lunch at McDoh, and a meeting at church w/ Fr. Steve. I followed that with a bad headache. Went home and watched Van Wilder while trying to nap. Headed out for girl's night around 6'ish. Watched Real Women Have Curves @ Harvard Exit(Seattle's haunted movie theater) and ate dinner at Gallerias. We celebrated Amie's birthday a day early and sat and chit chatted until they started putting up the chairs. Home in time to say good-bye to the guys who were headed out to Ballard Fire House for some Roots. oh man! missed it again....

Sunday was church, followed by a Parol making workshop for the parish families. Trying to instruct and educate the white folk on what exactly they were making. Some chose not to follow my guidence and sat there making their frame for 2 hours. Next week comes decorating and glue. Should be fun! Followed our workshop with Dim Sum and shopping in Chinatown. Mom is collecting roosters now. She bought a couple. Philip and I purchased our very own Mahjong set. Back home for a long nap while Philip took Dioji out. Woke up groggy and hungry. Tomato Soup and saltines. Philip and I made some more Parol frames for next week's workshop. Bedtime too late, lost track of time watching Thomas Crowne affair on TNT.

Week 15 - and supposedly I'm officially showing.
...but the article says, only if I'm wearing a bikini or a cat suit.

I keep asking Philip if my tummy is getting bigger and he says yes. But sometimes, I can't tell if it's the baby or flab...

Weekend update
Friday, I realized that I need to remember to take it easy. I stressed myself out and overworked my body, all in preparation for Philip's birthday bash. It was worth it, but the two of us sure did cook alot of food. We'll be eating leftovers all week, so if you hungry, come on over...

Saturday we started our day with a leftover lunch at mom's. We toted all of it over there and now there's only 1/2 left. Followed lunch w/ a flu shot at the clinic. On my way in, I saw a lady coming out. Her husband asked if she was OK. She responded by sticking out her lower lip, turning her face down and blinking out a few tears. I couldn't believe it hurt her that much. Later, we ventured out to Emmeline's birthday party at Skate King. Steve won the prize for the best roller disco moves and costume. He wore a lavender member's only jacket, shiny black short shorts, knee high tube socks and a purple headband. And I wish I had a video camera to record some of his moves. Emme, Lisa and Steve attempted the Electric Slide on Skates, which didn't work too well.

After church, breakfast, and a 1 hour nap on Sunday morning, we headed out to Spanaway for my cousin Joseph's 9th birthday party. Good 'ol family fun! Joseph prefers toys, but liked the clothes we got him. I knew those convertable cargo pants were cool. I think he thought the pizza and hamburger boxers were cool too, even though he blushed. I finally got to meet my cousin Raphael's 7 year old boy. Wierd that I'm an Auntie to this little boy I just met. But he sure fit in right away.

Takin' it easy this week...

French Fare
We celebrated Philip's birthday last night. It was an intimate dinner for two at a lovely French Restaurant.
It was no
French Laundry, but it was good enough for our first attempt at french cuisine.

We dined at Maximilien in the Pike Place Market.
Here's our menu:

Escargots ą la Bourguignonne -Baked Escargots in garlic and parsley butter (Philip enjoyed these and I just enjoyed the smell. I was afraid the baby wouldn't appreciate the delicacy of snails even before he/she 's birth.)
Salade Maximilien - Mixed greens dressed with our house vinaigrette
Tournedos de Boeuf Rossini - Beef Tenderloin seared with foie gras, served with truffle and armagnac sauce
(for me, although I could only eat half of my plate)
French Duck dish(for Philip, I can't remember the name and it wasn't listed on their menu on the internet)

Gāteau Fondant au Chocolat - Flourless Chocolate Cake(which was absolute heaven)

So, it looks like we'll be celebrating Philip's birthday all week....He's so poplular, ya know...

p.s. the fois gras was certianly a guilty pleasure. It tastes like buttery warm fat.(you may say gross, but think about the taste of the fat part of a roast when it just comes out of the oven, dipped in butter) So I looked up exactly what it is in French cooking glossary:

Foie Gras - This literally means goose liver, but the term is used to describe the fattened liver of both duck and geese. The birds are force fed a rich mixture to help expedite this process. These livers are praised for their delicate flavor and rich, buttery texture. The largest production of commercial foie gras is done in France and Israel. The US will only allow this product to be imported in a cooked stage, either canned, vacuum-sealed, or frozen. These are inferior products and will never highlight the true delicacy of foie gras. But fresh foie gras is now available from breeders in the US. These foie gras are very fine specimens, but a very high price goes along with them. Foie gras is prepared in a vast number of ways, though one should remember to keep these as simple as possible to avoid masking the flavor of this treasure.

Week 14 and Weekend update...

Visited Helen and Kyu on Friday night. We had a kimchee feast. Despite what Helen said about her own cooking, I thought everything tasted great. And Helen and Kyu are great. Helen gave me some maternity clothes, which I very much need. And even gave us a car seat that their baby Catherine had out grown. She's a huge 8 month old, thick and tall and cute. We brought their 3 year old, Davin some picture books and he was showing off all his toys. They're such a great family.

My wish of seeing the Mexican Modernism exhibit did not come true on Saturday. I instead attended an all day Simbang Gabi workshop at St. James Cathedral. All day of listening to "Aunties" talk about parols, and preparing food for fellowship hour, and people signing up to volunteer and then not showing. It was OK. I returned home, to an empty house and after a few phone calls tracked my husband to the Seattle Aquarium, where he was seeing the sights w/ my mom, dad, brother, moe, sister, cousin, uncle ben, and auntie Lynn. Boy was I left behind! So, I watched Iris by myself and cried hard enough to breath heavily and get up to get tissues for the tears rolling down my face. It might have been all my extra hormones, but it was also a great love story and tragic ending. I didn't know anything about the movie either, so I wasn't expecting it. Later, Philip, Jayme and Mara picked me up and we headed to mom's for dinner. Fish Tacos, Fish Sinigang and a watching of Blade 2.

Sunday, church, breakfast w/ Auntie mimi, Ride to Bainbridge, short stop at Mara's place to deliver kitchen supplies, Drive to Bremerton. Early Birthday Celebration w/ Mom Tessie and Dad Lito. After a few hours straightening up at the Sari Sari Store, we ended our weekend at Azteca.

In store for this week:
Philip's Birthday dinner for 2
Philip's Birthday bash for later
New tires
Some christmas knitting.
