The Tick confronts these thieves and discovers that each woman is made of thousands of intelligent ants, stuffed together in dresses, pumps, and hats. In the melee, The Tick is covered by a swarm of these insects and freaks out entirely. The encounter traumitizes him so he seeks therapy at Captain Sanity\'s Superhero Sanitarium. While The Tick is in for treatment, the ants attempt to take over The City. Arthur, American Maid, Sewer Urchin, Die Fledermaus, and Fishboy come to The City\'s aid by working their way up a twenty story ant hill, but are captured and imprisoned in a giant people farm. After Captain Sanity and his physical therapist, Taft\'s brand of therapy fails, The Tick overcomes his fear and confronts the object of his nightmares, a giant composite ant lead by the ant queen, Betty, and a large magnifying glass that threatens to burn The City to the ground. After the battle, Betty is captured, and the remaining ants, leaderless, pose no further threat to The City\'s saftey.
