Captain Evenson
East Precinct
Seattle, WA. 98122
Dear Captain Evenson,
As you undoubtedly know, there have been a number of shootings in the 20th and Madison area the last few weeks. One more just last night. Indeed these shootings have resulted in serious injuries and even a fatality. In each instance the response by the Seattle Police Department has been prompt. We thank you for that. However, given the number of occurrences we feel a more proactive set of actions is needed.
Specifically, we would like to request extra patrols in the area. We would like this to include marked squad cars and some other "on the ground" presence. Because we know resources are tight we suggest focusing this attention during the hours of 11:00 PM to 3:00 AM. Naturally continued prompt response to 911 calls and investigation into incidents is critical and appreciated.
We have enjoyed our close working relationship with the East Precinct over the years. We believe this is a time when we need to call upon SPD resources for this critical public safety issue. There are hundreds of single family and multi-family housing units (with a significant number of households with children and senior citizens) adjacent to the business district as well as many innocent customers of the Madison Avenue businesses who are endangered. We fear that another really tragic event is possible. It also is chilling for the many small businesses. This is not just a matter of "threatening" behavior. Were talking real guns, real bullets flying, real people hurt and killed. This situation cannot be allowed to continue without some proactive steps to curb it.
Thank you in advance for your prompt attention to this request.
Sincerely yours,
Chuck Weinstock
