(the Calendar now has its own page)

(Updated 5/11/05)

(Feel free to contact the City Department of Planning and Development to comment on any of the zoning issues mentioned above and below. If you don't contact them, they won't know how you feel about changes in your neighborhood).

  2. Seattle's a great place, if you can afford it, a Seattle Times article (9/26/04) that details the "housing gap" in Seattle: "..in focusing on the extreme ends of the market - million-dollar mansions and subsidized housing - they're missing the middle group. That's the vast number of working families earning $30,000 to $50,000 for whom the issue of affordable market-rate housing, either to buy or rent, is most dire."

This has long been a concern in our rapidly developing neighborhood, and is why we have worked to ensure the availability of middle-income housing.

  11. 7/20/04: Replacement of Ballfield Lights at Miller Playfield starts today. From the signs at the field:

    LIGHTING REPLACEMENT

No Games Scheduled July 20 - August 13

Tlie Miller Playfield ball fields will be temporarily closed for the installation of new light poles.

Once initial installation work is complete (approximately August 13), the fields will reopen for use. The Parks Department expects to adjust lighting after the initial installation.

This lighting renovation project will replace existing field lighting for Miller Playfield's soccer and softball fields.

Eleven wood lighting poles are being relaced with steel poles, the same height as the existing poles.

New lamps will provide more uniform surface illumination for players on the field, with minimal energy consumption, and will restrict spillover and glare lighting from falling onnearby residences, per City Code and Parks Department standi'irds. The new lighting system will provide better controls, allowing for selective field lighting.

Anticipated project completion: September 2004 project budget: $302,000

If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please contact the Project Manager, Virginia Hassinger at (206) 233-7936 or by e-mail at virginia.hassinger@seattle.gov

See the Parks website for further details

Note especially: that: "After the new system has been installed, there is a burn-in period when the lamps are brighter. The system needs to be run for 100 hours and then the lighting levels will be measured again. The lights will operate for 10 hours a day for 10 days. There is a period of adjustment built into the project, so that adjustments to the lights can be made. "
