Friends, Neighbors and Movie Fans,
Gossip! Cat Fights! Witty Insults! Oh My!
This week the folks at Victrola Coffee bring you "The Women". A brilliant all-female cast sparks this adaptation of Clare Booth Luce's stinging comedy about divorce and female friendship. Subtly sniping, "The Women" progresses from harmless gossip to vicious verbal backstabbing. There were 135 women in the cast and not a single man. Although no men appear in the film, they are its primary subject matter--cheating men, in particular--and hell hath no fury like a group of women scorned! Wednesday thru Sunday August 10-14th at 6:30 & 9:30**
Thumbelina - This is the fable of the tiny girl born to a childless woman from a flower. Longing to find someone her size, she falls in love with a fairy prince, Cornelius, only to be kidnapped by a band of show business toads and their singing Ma. That's just the beginning of Thumbelina's adventures and her quest to be reunited with her prince--and it's an adventure filled with danger and excitement.
"...THUMBELINA casts its spell so effectively that you don't even have to be a child to be swept away to its magical never-never land....It is a work of lilting pace and charm..." - Los Angeles Times 03/30/1994 - Saturday & Sunday August 13 & 14 at 12:00, 2:15, 4:30.
There is now a printer friendly (pdf) schedule for the month of August on our website http://www.central-cinema.com/calendar/AugustSchedule.pdf
The Capitol Hill Farmers Market which has been operating since Fall of 2004 near the Central Seattle Community College, is moving this week and changing its Name to the Madison/Capitol Hill Market. The Marketwill open at its new location on 20th Ave & E. Madison at the Mount Zion Baptist Church parking lot on this Friday, May 20 from 3 pm to 7pm,
This is European-style market with fresh produce, meats, fish, eggs, bakery items, flowers which, unlike other farmers markets, includes original handmade crafts from local artisans.
Both Seattle Farmers Markets Assn., (the organizing non-profit group) and the sponsor, Mount Zion Baptist Church, are very excited to be able to bring this type of community building weekly event to the Central Area, Madrona and Madison neighborhoods. The participating small farmers and local artists really appreciate being able to bring their products directly to these neighborhoods, and look forward to the beginning of a great new weekly tradition.
The Ballard Sunday Market goes year round, and it possible the Madison Hill Market might too. If the support is there from Customers and the church, the Market could shift to a Saturday daylight operation during the period from November through March which would be great for year round continuity.
