DATES

by Ted Peterson
When people bring up dates they tell you the months and days. These are the dates that home and small business people will use. That is January. May, etc
That system is NOT the most used dates system used in the US or the world. Julian dates is the most used system.
Julian dates was the first system ever used. What it is, you use the day of the year starting with 001 and go up to the last day of that year. In the old days before 0-BC there was not 365 days a year and the year did not start on Jan 1.
Today all computer programs use the Julian system in the program. It will change the print outs by adding m/d/y to the printing but all the work inside is by Julian. Most accounting in the large accounts are in Juion. All most all PO, and Invoicing will have a Julian number or part in it. That way the computer will tell the dep't. how long the PO has been out or where to find it in the computer. Banking is all most all by the Julian system. That way they can go into the computer and tell them to print out all accounts 100 days past due with out coming up with a month and day.
If you look you will find the Julian number on most calendar or date pads that you pick up each year. It will be a small number that most people will not use. Look for it.
You, in your ever day activieties will NOT use it, but you should know what it is.
Below you will find the listing of what the days are. I have printed each month and beside it you will find 2 listings. The first is for most of the years, and the 2nd listing is leap year. The days listed is the last day of the month and to find the Juion day for any other day by adding the days past the last day of the previous month.
