Gardens in Oregon and Washington

There are a number of gardens that are open all year long and also some that are open at special times each year.

Rose Test Garden - Japanese Garden - Portland Zoo
These 3 gardens are all within the City of Portland's Washington Park. The Japanese Garden is across the street from the Rose Test Garden and the Portland Zoo is at the other end of the park. Also with the zoo you will find the World Forestry Center across the street.
To travel to the Rose Gardens go out W. Burnside Street past W 23rd a few blocks and follow the sign by turning left. You then go about 1/3 mile and you will be at the Rose Garden parking lot.
In this garden you will find thousands of different roses that most of the people that come to Portland "The City Of Roses" will want to see.
The Japanese Garden is across the tennis courts and then across the street from the Rose Garden. This is one of the largest Japanese Gardens in the US. You can rent a cart and travel around and take many rolls of film with a Japanese setting.
At the south end of both of these gardens there is a road that goes up through Washington Park. There are a large number of places that you can get GOOD pictures if you want. At the end of this road (about 4 miles) turn left and about .1 mile you will come to the World Forestry Center. You will want to visit here.
Across the street you will see the light-rail station. Take the elevator down to the station. This is the deepest train station in the US and one of the deepest stations in world. It is brand new and you will want to see it.
Next to the train station is Oregon (Portland) Zoo. This zoo covers a large space and you can spend days and not see it conpletely.

IRIS - TULIPS - DAFFODILS
In the Silverton, Mt. Angel, and Woodburn section of Oregon (about 35-40 miles south of Portland on I-5) there are thousands of acres of flowers. Some of the biggest flower farms in the US.
If you go at the right times (March to June) you can see and take pictures of fields that goes for miles with different colors of Tulips, Iris and Daffodils. Tulips will come first, then Daffodils and last Iris. Some of these fields are over 1 mile square or more.
Coole's Gardens is the largest producer of bearded Iris in the world. They will have over a million Iris in bloom all at once from May-June. Their web is www.cooleysgardens.com
The Wooden Shoe Bulb Company is a extra large grower of Tulips and Daffodils. One small field is over 30 acres of different colors of Tulips. A large number of Portland Photographers have used a large number of rolls of film there. Their web is www.woodenshoe.com
Also from this section, going south down past Salem, most of the worlds grass seed is grown. This section of Oregon produce over 90% of all grass seed sold in the world and is called the "grass seed capital of the world."
