KALVAR SLIDE FILM

by Ted Peterson
There is a film for sale that is the best film for high light mask film, or if you want to tone down a slide.
This film started out as the film that the US Goverment used to keep all the records for the SSA. They are now using computers. This film is hard to get but it is for sale around the country.
This film can be handled in normal room light. It does not use any chemicals beside water. You do not use any equipment except your slide projector.
Here is how to use it.
Remove your color slide film from the cardboard frame and tape one edge to a clean slide cover glass (base side of film to glass).
Place a piece of Kalvar slide film over transparency with emulsion sides of film together. Use a small piece of tape to hold in place.
Check and remove dust from all surface with a soft brush. Cover with a second clean glass.
Place sandwich in slide projector with the color film toward the light source and condensers.
Turn on the projector lamp and expose for 45 to 50 seconds (based on a 500 watt lamp and a normal color slide.)
Turn off lamp and remove sandwich so that you can take out the Kalvar film.
Dip Kalvar film into boiling water for about 2 seconds. Hold film by one corner with a tweezers. (Maxmium development can be achieved at 260 degree f.)
Blot dry with some lint free paper. DO NOT RUB.
Place film between two clean glasses and return to projector for 20 to 30 seconds. This will clear the film.
Mount the Kalvar film with the color transparency.
Hold over night if the slide will have a prolonged viewing.
When you find a source for this film pass the information around. Send an e-mail to me at the e-mail address below. I have used a large amount of this film. I was buying Kalvar in 2,000 foot rolls, but the company that was selling this film in California went out of money and quit.
