Easy Way to Link 2 Computers |

| When you have two computers and want to transfer files, programs, pictures, etc. from one to the others you want to have an easy way to do this instead of having to transfer the items to a floppy, Zip disk, or CD. This will take time and maybe it may not be complete in that you will try to copy a file too large to go onto the disk or CD. I have had to make 4 or 5 floppys to transfer a large group of folders. There is an easy and cheap way to do this. |
| In the last few months different computer companys have come out with what they call USB Link Cables. What one computer company will sell for $20.00, another will sell the same thing for $40.00. The one I picked up was by COMP USA. It sold for $19.99 for a 8 foot one and $29.00 for a 16 foot one. I went to another "big box" computer store down the way from them and they wanted $37.95 for the 8 foot one but it was in another type of package. |

| What these are, is an 8 foot (or 16 foot) cable that has a plug on each end that you plug into USB ports on both computers. |
| As a computer send a power charge down the USB cable you cannot connect both as then you can burn out something on both of them. What the computer makers do, is in the middle of this cable they place a cross over with a 12MHZ crystal in it so that it will stop a voltage but not the signal. |
| There is a small program that you install on each computer will make it will work. |
| What you do to transfer the items from one computer to the other, is go to the desk top on each computer and click on the PC LINK icon. When you do this both computers will show both "MY COMPUTER" screens, one above the other on both computers. Then on either computer you drag and drop the program or file down or up. You can do this with either computer. The item will then be on both computers. The transfer rate is 6Mbps. |
| This works easy. I use my laptop when I go on trips and when I come home I transfer my pictures from the laptop to my main computer. Ron, in Hawaii has two computers that have different things on each and different printers and he was not able to change back and forth. Some of his good programs were on one computer but this computer is not conected to the internet. The other computer is on the internet but does not have some of his good programs. With this set up he can use both computers all the time. |
