LITTLE USED MEASUREMENTS

There is a group of measurements that are used for different things that most people will have little use for. They are used in some special way. Below are a few.
1 Bushel is made up of 4 pecks or 35.239 liters in US dry measure. Overseas and in liquid measure it is different.
1 Dram is 1.772 grams or .0625 ounce. Not much.
1 Long Ton is 2,240 lbs.
1 Peck is 8 quarts.
1 Barrel can be any size from 31 to 42 gallons. This is set by standards for the items and also by laws.
1 Scruple is 20 grains or 1.296 grams.
1 Quinal is 220.462 lbs.
1 Rod is a unit of measure equal to 5.5 yards, 16.5 feet or 5.03 meters.
1 Fathom is a unit of measure equal to 6 feet that is used in measurement of marine depths.
1 Furlong is a unit of measure equal to 220 yards or 1/8 mile that is use in horse racing.
1 Acre is unit in the US for land measurement and is equal to 4,840 square yards, 43,560 sq feet, 160 square rods, etc.
1 Acre-Inch is a unit use in the measurement of water and is 1 inch of water that cover 1 acre or is equal to 3,630 cubic feet of water.
1 Hand is a unit used in horse racing to measure the height of a horse. 1 hand is 4 inch or 10.16 cm.
1 Carat is a unit of weight for precious stones equal to 200 milligrams.
1 Stone is a unit of weight in England equal to 6.36 kilograms or 14 lb US.
1 Square Mile is equal to 640 acres.
1 Horse-power is a unit of power in the US. It is equal to 745.7 watts or 33,000 foot pounds per minute or the power exerted by a horse pulling something.
1 British Thermal Unit is the quantity of heat to raise the temperature of one pound of water by one degree F.
Lumen is the unit of luminous6 flux emitted in a solid angle of one uniform point source having an intensity of one candle.
In power there are some units that are used. Voltage (Volt), Amp, and Wattage. 1 Watt is 1 Amp x 1 Volt.
