THUMB NAIL PRINTS

by Ted Peterson
People takeing a lot of pictures would like to have a proof sheet with a group of pictures on them. If the pictures are already on a computer it will be easy.
If slides or negatives are not on the computer, they have to be scanned. If the pictures were taken by a digital camera the only thing that has to be done is they need to be transfered to the computer. They can be any type of picture, jpg, tif, bmp, etc.
If the pc is using Windows ME or one of the other Windows systems, the system may have a program on it when the computer was set up called "My Photo Center. There may not be a icon set up for it but a icon can be set up easy.
If the program is on the computer but no icon yo can set up the shortcut by typing in c:/Program Files/ArcSoft/My Photo Center/PhotoBase/phBase.exe
When the icon "My Photo" is clicked, a new screen will show with 30 square with space for 3 lines on type under the squares.
At this point go to "Edit" on top and click on "Add Image".
A new menu will now show at which point enter the picture file from your computer.
Now the picture will show on your screen at the first open square with the number or name that the picture had on the computer. This number or name will NOT show when the page print.
If the name or other information is needed on the printed copy, click on the picture and the 3 lines at the lower end of the screen will turn white so that the information can be entered. This has to be done with each picture.
Any number up to 30 can be entered. When you are done with both the text and pictures the sheet can be printed. Each 8 1/2 X 11 sheet will print out up to 16 prints. The pictures will be about the size of a 35 mm snapshot inside a nice larger frame and the text will be inside the frame but below the picture. When 30 pictures are entered, 16 pictures will be on the first sheet and 14 will be on page #2.
At this time the file can be saved. The set will be saved as a .phb file.
I have scanned all my 35mm slides and negatives and saved them on a CD. Each slide is saved by a number + .tif, 35 slides or 31 negatives to a CD. (a 35mm slide takes 17 megs of file and a negative takes 19megs of space.)
Now I can make a group of sheets with all 1,800 slides on them so that I can look over the printed sheets and pick out the slide I need. All slides are filed by number.
This program can do a lot of other things but this article only covers the proof sheets.
