POWER COST

by Ted Peterson
Most people do not know how much it costs to use many of their electronic items around the house, even though the item had is marked with its power useage.
Most items will have the wattage marked on them when you buy the items. Your power company that sells you electrcity charges so much a KW hour. That mean the cost is the price on your bill as the price of 1,000 watts for one hour. A 25 watt bulb will use 25 watts if on for one hour (that is .025 KW.).
The bill will have some price from $.02 a KW (in parts of the NW) to $.25 a KW in Hawaii as the cost.
To find out your cost to run the items take your cost per KW and then multiply it by the wattage marked on the item. If under 10 watts type .00 in front of the wattage value. From 10 to 99 add .0 and if over 99 do not add any 0. Then place a period in front. Example, one 35 watt bulb and your power company charge $.05 KW you would use $.05 x .035. Then the cost for one hour of use would be $.00175 per hour. For 1 day (24hour) $.042. For 1 week $.294. etc. As you can see it can add up. Have the people in your home turn off items when not used.
If you are using 35 watt bulbs and change to 70 watt bulbs your cost will be double, etc. In Portland the power company gave the people fluorescent bulbs to replace their reglar bulbs and by doing this a 15 watt bulb takes the place of a 60 watt bulb. Your charge per bulb went down 75%.
