| One of my students wanted to find out how to save and open a file. Another student wanted to learn how to set up how to print and how to open a file. This article will show you how to save - delete and another article will take up printing and how to opening a file. |
SAVE |
| Any time that you have a file, picture, folder, etc. that you would like to save you can eaisly do this. You can save to your hard drive, Zip drive, floppy, etc. You need to know how much space the item takes. You can check with "My Computer" and click on the file and then with the right mouse key on the file and then properties you will see the amount of space needed. . If the file is 1.44 meg or less, you can save it on a floppy. If it is under 100 meg or 250 meg (depending the model you have) you can save on your Zip drive. More than that you have to use your hard drive. |
| When you have the item on your computer monitor, move your cursor to "file" on top. Click on it and then click on "save as". At this point a drop down screen will show your listing of a group of files. If this is not where you want to save the file you need to move up to the listing above the file and click on the drive you would like to save the file. This could be the floppy drive (A), a Zip drive, or the hard drive. Then go to the folder that you would like to save the file. If this is the place you want for your file make sure that the name you want to use is in the listing down below. If it is there click "save". If you want to save it under a different name or type of file go below the name and change what is listed. What we mean if if you want to save the file as a .jpg file in place of a .tif file, etc. |
| Saving to a floppy may take some time but all the others will go through fast. At this point you can close the file. |
DELETE |
| If you want to delete a file, picture, or program here is how to do it. If the program that you are working on does not have a spot that tells you that you can, then you can by following the instructions in this article. |
| Click on "My Computer" and bring up the listing that show the item that you would like to delete. Accent by pressing on the left mouse key once. If you would like to delete more then one item go to the last item that you would like to delete and click on that items WHILE holding down the shift key. All the ones between the first and last one accented will be accented. |
| |
| Then click on the top listing called "file" and then a drop down menu will show. Click on "delete". Then another drop down menu will ask you "do you want to delete the item". Click OK. Then it will be deleted. |
| I hope that this clears up some questions. |
